Self-introduction
1. Personal background
I would like to express myself in red, blue
and yellow.
Red is symbolic of youth and ambition and
blue is symbolic of cooperation and
understanding, spirits which are well
reflected in my six months’ backpack journey
through Europe and my one year internship in
the United States. These experiences gave me
an opportunity to build self-confidence and
learn other cultures while interacting with
my coworkers. In the last six years of
working as a preschooler teacher in my
church except for the times I spent in
overseas, I had the privilege of discovering
yellow, symbolic color of integrity and
effort through the innocence of the
children.
2. Personality, shortcomings and
principles.
“View the world with positive attitude”
My first job after graduation was with Lake
Tahoe in the state of Nevada, and it was
worthy to be called as the city of various
ethnicities for its ethnic and cultural
diversity; and it was quite an experience
for me as I had not been exposed to other
culture at that time. The laid-back attitude
of the American people was well exhibited by
employees of department stores and
government offices. It was hard for me, who
was used to prioritization of prompt
business handling in Korea, to understand
those attitudes; however I tried to maintain
a positive perspective with the
understanding that it takes embracing
different ways to make friends of different
cultures. Once I realized that their low-key
attitudes are the result of the vast soil
and affluence they enjoy, it was much easier
for me to understand their culture and
expand this understanding in assessing my
inability to appreciate other cultures. My
most significant personality attribute, the
positive outlook, enabled me to make up for
my shortcomings, and it also helped me to
reinforce my principle- ‘view the world with
a positive attitude’.
3. Experiences
“Testament to taking on a challenge and
efforts”
To keep up with the pace of fast changing
world, I pushed myself to try out many
different things in university days. Through
discussions as a member of English speech
group, I kept myself up to date with what’s
going on in the world and learned how to
convey my ideas in a concise and organized
manner. In the third year, I supported the
president of the student group as the vice
president working to better the group into a
more cohesive one. In the midst of busy
schedule, I took time out to teach English
to under-privileged middle school students
in their second year twice a week at
Cheongju Women’s Home for six months. In the
second year in university, I took time off
from school to study English in UK and went
on a backpack trip by myself around Europe
for six months. After graduation, I was
selected as an intern with Korea Industry
Workforce Union thanks to my proficiency in
English and had the privilege of working in
the United States for a year. I worked as an
interpreter for 70 Korean interns at Lake
Tahoe Harvis hotel and the experience proved
to be a wonderful stepping stone onto a path
to successful career. In an effort to
better myself, I took Japanese class and
learned emergency first aid at Lake Tahoe
Community College and earned two
certification issued by the American Red
Cross. Upon completing my internship on June
22, I traveled around the US with my family
for 15days. I returned to Korea around the
time of my visa expiration in July.
4. What I can offer for the department I
am applying for
“I promise unremitting photosynthesis of
roots, branches and leaves.”
A tree produces the best fruits when its
roots, branches, and leaves function
properly. I meet three conditions required
of producing healthy fruit as a career. The
three letters of recommendation I received
while working in the US are the testament to
my dedication. Taking my parents’ emphasis
on dedication and honesty to heart, their
teachings are at the root of who I am. I
believe hands-on experience is absolutely
critical in order to grow a strong stem
based on strong roots. I have been worked as
a hotelier for one year. And I am currently
working as a secretary and handling
businesses for my superior. From high school
days, I have been helping out my dad with
accounting who runs a stock breeding
business. Owing to the familiarity with
accounting from helping out my dad, I was
able to handle accounting matters at Johnson
& Johnson without difficulty. Lastly, as
tree leaves adjust to changing temperature
and humidity through photosynthesis, I have
green leaves in me which will help me to
adapt myself to the fast changing world.
Extensive overseas stays including English
training in UK and internship in the US
helped me to adjust quickly to different
circumstances. If I am given the opportunity
to work as a worker, I will strive to
contribute to maximization of profit of the
hotel and fulfill my potential utilizing my
proficiency in English thereby handling my
duties in a prompt and precise manner.
